Awkward silences are so... awkward

Yesterday I went to a discussion group at uniSA. I didn't really want to go at first, but mum made a big deal out of it so i went to get her off my back.

I got there and wandered around for a while because all the buildings were a little confusing! The interviewer found me and took me to the room (I was the last one to arrive) and told us she'd be right back.

There were 8 other people there and everyone was just sitting in silence. It was such an awkward silence but everyone knew how awkward it was so we kind of looked each other like “Hey. How awkward is this right?”

So awkward.

It actually made me smile and then I wanted to laugh but didn’t because I didn’t want the others to think I was weird or anything, just sitting there laughing for no reason.

After a while I got this really bad urge to go “How you doin?” in a Joey voice. Just to see how they’d react.

In the end we were saved by the interviewer. She came back into the room and I knew we were all thinking the same thing: Thank God!! First off she told us we were being filmed, which made me immediately check my hair. I know... what a girly reflex!

Then the discussion started. It was basically her asking us a whole bunch of questions about what we thought of the uni, what we liked and didn’t like, our careers and stuff.

The whole thing lasted for 1 ½ hours and by the end we were feeling more relaxed. After it was over I went to look around the uni. The place looks pretty nice and modern (although all the stairs might get a bit tiring).

When I got home I thought about all the things I'm going to miss about high school. Being in a familiar place, knowing everyone there, getting to hang out with friends.

I'm really, really going to miss that. But I'm ridiculously happy about the not having to do maths part.
